Would more lockdowns under Joe Biden be better for the United States?

Joe Biden promises if he becomes President, he will listen to his science advisers, and lockdown the entire economy if they say he should. Given that Democrat scientists tend to be partisan hacks, who bend science to justify left-wing policies, you should expect whatever policy the Left decide to go with, will be endorsed by Biden’s science advisers.

More Lockdowns?

In spite of the neverending push by the US medical bureaucracy, and others on the Left for more broad lockdowns, one thing is for certain: lockdowns are economically suicidal, and killing the economy, destroys the very thing that keeps its citizens alive. A nation's economy feeds and clothes its citizens; provides them shelter; ensures their health by establishing a clean and healthy environment; provides care when they need it; educates and entertains them, etc. When the economy goes, all the above services will go along with it, and the lives of its citizens will be imperiled as a result. A grave collapse of the economy will lead to mass death, and a significant deterioration in the quality of life for most of those who survive.

The above is why broad lockdowns are a bad idea: because you put at risk, the lives of all of a society’s citizens, in order to save the lives of a few. Broad lockdowns are analogous to subjecting a patient’s entire body to radiation therapy, rather than just the areas with cancer cells. Such an approach would all but certainly kill the patient, but the more targeted the therapy, the more likely the patient will survive, and the more likely the patient’s life will not be significantly disrupted.

Movement against lockdowns

The devastating effects of lockdowns have been outlined in several articles, including this one. In addition, as of the publication of this article, as many as 34,000 scientists and doctors signed a declaration, strongly opposing COVID lockdowns.

The second article outlines an approach by the above scientists and doctors, consistent with President Trump’s own approach, as well as the approach of many Red State governors. The approach involves protecting the vulnerable, and allowing those not vulnerable to COVID-19, to live their lives freely, until herd immunity is developed – after which the vulnerable may re-enter society.

Conclusion

Despite Joe Biden and Democrats’ claiming that President Trump did a poor job managing the COVID-19 pandemic, and that Joe Biden would do a better job, president Trump’s approach to managing COVID-19 is the one that has been consistent with the one endorsed by many thousands of non-partisan scientists and doctors. These experts, on the other hand, have repudiated the mass lockdown approach espoused by Biden, which has been shown to be highly detrimental to citizens.
